Volunteer Experience Report at Finca Noah (Samona)

I spent a week as a volunteer at the beautiful Finca Noah in July 2021.
Farah and her team do wonderful work with great passion and dedication on Mallorca.
Finca Noah is hardly comparable to a traditional "animal shelter" as you might know them from other places. Great emphasis is placed on (absolute!) cleanliness, the animal enclosures are generously laid out and furnished with attention to detail.
Over 100 animals have found a (temporary) home at Finca Noah in the meantime, which involves a lot of work.
Farah has high standards for herself and her staff to maintain the set standard. Animal welfare is always the top priority.
So cleaning happens twice daily in the enclosures and all around the entire Finca grounds. In addition to feeding, cuddles, walks with the dogs, or occasional rides (for experienced volunteers ☺), there is accordingly a lot of cleaning on the agenda – even beyond the animal enclosures. I found this quite exhausting, especially since I'm not used to physical labor from my usual office life – particularly in Mallorca's summer heat. You need to be aware of that!
Nevertheless, the work is worthwhile, because the animals give you so much in return. It's incredibly beautiful to see how previously homeless/sick/abused animals rediscover their joy of life, build trust with people, and ultimately can be placed in a loving home.

Surroundings & Accommodation at Casa Jeannine
Finca Noah is situated somewhat off the beaten path, but in a dream-like beautiful location.
There are shopping opportunities nearby (approximately 10 minutes by car). If you don't rent a car, it's best to bring some groceries with you upon arrival. With a rental car you're naturally flexible and independent – otherwise you need to organize accordingly.
I decided not to rent a car because there isn't an excessive amount of time between the morning and evening shifts at the Finca to drive around the island. So I explored the immediate surroundings by bike in my free time.
There are beautiful coves within immediate reach (accessible by bike in 5 minutes; I was able to use a bike from the Finca during my stay).
With Casa Jeannine, volunteers have their own little house available, which is also lovingly furnished and offers everything you need in a small space (including your own kitchen). If you don't feel like cooking yourself, you'll find restaurants in Cala d'Or or, for example, a small beach bar at Cala Sa Nau (in immediate proximity to the Finca).

Overall, it was a very valuable experience for me and I'm taking many wonderful memories home with me.
I recommend a volunteer stint at Finca Noah to anyone who loves animals, is willing to pitch in, and isn't too proud to get their hands dirty.
Great respect to the Animal Police Association team for your fantastic commitment and heartfelt thanks for allowing me to have this experience – keep up the great work ☺!
