NEW ARRIVALS
RUBINA with kittens ONIX and SAPHIR
Rubina, the sweet little Podenco dog, is about 2Β½ years old, 37 cm tall and weighs 7 kilos.
Here comes a heartbreaking story with a happy ending! Recently, a man came to Finca Noah to get food for his cat colony that he was caring for. He told Farah that he had discovered a small dog at an abandoned finca, but unfortunately had no chance of getting near her because she was protecting two kittens with all her might. He went on to say that the two kittens must have been very, very young because their eyes were still closed. Worried about these kittens, he told an acquaintance about them. She decided to take the two babies herself. Although the dog barked and growled, the acquaintance managed to get the babies. The next day, the man went back to the spot to see if he could find a mother cat somewhere, or any other kittens. He found no cats, but he did find the little dog again from whom the kittens had been taken. The man said she was in exactly the same corner where she had been with the kittens the day before. The dog had whimpered pitifully, howled and repeatedly searched through the corner.
The man and his wife then went to the dog daily to feed her. But the dog wouldn't eat β the food remained untouched, day after day....And every day the dog howled, whimpered softly, with a broken mother's heart. Deep in grief over the loss of "her" babies.
You only have to tell Farah something like this once. She was devastated that this dog had simply had her two kittens taken away. Appalled that no one had even considered for a moment what this situation meant for the dog, who had developed maternal feelings and was now searching for her little babies every day. For Farah, it was clear: the two kittens and the dog had to be reunited. Farah asked the man if the two kittens were still with the acquaintance, which he confirmed. Then she said: "I'll give you all the food for free, but you'll bring both kittens and the little dog to Finca Noah, and you'll do it right away".
Said and done! Since that day, the sweet little Rubina and her two jet-black kittens have been with us. Onix and Saphir are now about two weeks old and still need to be bottle-fed regularly by us. Nobody knows exactly how the two kittens managed to survive the first few days. The fact is that the dog did everything instinctively right. Rubina now looks after the babies with us. She cleans and cuddles them every day. She also watches over the kittens, who currently live with her in Casa Jeannine, protecting them from the other cats and dogs.
Rubina is a very caring mother and we see her smile on her face every day, her happiness, her gratitude, her joy and her affection. Rubina, Onix and Saphira will of course only be placed together.

LLUNA and CANDELA
The two dogs Lluna and Candela were brought to us together because their owners moved from a house to an apartment. If we hadn't taken them in, they would have ended up in a killing station.
Rejected by their own family, pushed aside, discarded and sentenced to death. How can anyone act like this? You don't just give away family members, living beings, friends, souls!? What kind of people are these who justify such an act with conviction and still feel good about it...?
LLUNA
Lluna is a mixed breed dog, probably a German Shepherd mix (with floppy ears), possibly with a bit of Labrador in there too. She is about six years old, 55 cm tall and weighs about 25 kg.
Lluna is a self-confident, cheerful, cuddly dog who is completely human-oriented. She loves our walks, which we take twice a day with her β and of course with all the other dogs. When we're out, she always wants to be at the front. Lluna gets along well with other dogs, as long as they're not dominant and right nearby. Lluna can easily win people over. We suspect that Lluna wouldn't get along with cats. Unfortunately, Lluna's tail is docked, and we don't know why either. (A minor blemish). With the help of our Swiss veterinarian Jann Rapp, there will be a solution so that Lluna doesn't have to stay on the island but can fly to a loving family in Switzerland or Germany.

CANDELA
Candela is also a mixed breed dog, we suspect a Labrador mix. She is also about six years old, 52 cm tall and weighs 21 kg.
Candela, like her friend Lluna, is absolutely human-oriented and a real ray of sunshine. She is very playful and loves it most when people fool around with her. But she has another passion: her stuffed animal (a black dog). The little fur talisman has been her constant companion from the start. She loves taking the little thing to her wooden box, where she usually stays because of the heat. Her absolute highlight is also going for walks. Recently she has started looking interested over the walls, or jumping up onto walls. Her nature with other dogs is very social. We don't know yet how she gets along with cats.

Unfortunately, both dogs were presumably beaten. You can see it in their reaction when you wave your hands around too quickly or too hectically.
The rabbit POCOYO
The sweet, hand-tame rabbit with the big floppy ears was brought to us by veterinarian Dr. Pirron. He was attacked by a dog and suffered life-threatening injuries. His owners brought the little rabbit to Dr. Pirron, who immediately operated on him. We don't know why Pocoyo was never picked up by his owners after that.
Dr. Pirron contacted us because Animal Police gives all animals a home β and because she knew that we have a 220 square meter rabbit paradise where seven adult rabbits and one baby rabbit currently live (the baby rabbit is our Easter bunny because it was born on Good Friday. We had already taken its mother, not knowing it was pregnant).
In the first days with us, Pocoyo was very weak and, to be honest, I (Nadia) had great concerns about whether the cute rabbit would survive. But his condition improved day by day and β what can I say β today he is a healthy, cuddly rabbit who loves being cuddled.

Our peacock family
You should know that we've had two female peacocks with us for a couple of months now. For Farah, it was clear from the beginning that more would surely come along at some point. Since we have the space for them. One day, the neighbour came and asked Farah if she would be willing to take his two peacocks (one male and one female) because he no longer had any use for them. Without giving it much thought, Farah immediately agreed.
And then came that Sunday. The neighbour in question called and told Farah that he would bring the peacocks over in five minutes. Farah thought it was a bit odd that he was talking about a family.....but immediately went down with me, Nadia, and we waited for the neighbour. When the neighbour arrived, he opened the boot of his car β and what did we see? A whole peacock family! Papa peacock, mama peacock and five young peacocks, only a few days old. Our surprise was great and returning the family was not an option. Because of the birds of prey that regularly circle over Finca Noah, we couldn't just let them run freely in the enclosure. The only option we had at short notice was to house the peacocks in our former quarantine pens. The problem with these pens, however, is that the eleven puppies we had in them last year chewed holes in the fence, so we had to rate the pens as not optimal for safety reasons and risk of injury. Farah decided to have new, secure quarantine pens built. We temporarily moved the discarded ones next to our poultry, where they posed no danger.
When the peacock family came to us on that Sunday and we urgently needed to find housing, it quickly became clear that the pens were not optimal for the peacocks either. On the one hand, there were still the holes, so we would have had to re-cover everything, on the other hand, the pens would have had to be anchored to the ground because of snakes and rats. Both were not possible in the short time and for financial reasons. In an emergency, we therefore quickly wrapped the pen with clear plastic film so that the young peacocks couldn't run away or get hurt. Against snakes and rats, we provisionally laid stones around the pens. It's not an optimal solution, but the only one we could manage in the short time to keep the peacock family somewhat protected and safe.
As soon as it's financially feasible, rebuilding the pens will be our next project.

THE STREET PUPPIES ON SANTORINI (Greece)
Farah doesn't just rescue the animals that we introduce to you here every month. There are many more that are never mentioned. Often the animals go into foster care because, for example, the care is so intensive that we can't take them on time-wise, or often because we simply don't have space at Finca Noah. Sometimes Farah finds the right new home almost before the animal is rescued. However, this is only possible because Animal Police has a large network. Finding placement, pre-checks, vaccinations, passports, flights, etc. are then organized by Farah, so to speak, "all in one breath". She often spends almost the whole night on the phone, writing WhatsApp messages and emails. But by morning everything is organized and within hours an animal that has been abused for years can be given a good new place and start a new life.
And Farah also becomes active outside of Mallorca when animals need help. Such was the case about two weeks ago after an emergency call from a Swiss family vacationing on Santorini. If Farah hadn't been in Switzerland at the time, where she had to work (the ongoing costs have to be paid somehow), the four puppies found alone on the street in Santorini would already be gone. Farah is currently in the middle of organizing how the puppies can be brought out. Language barriers and vaccinations for departure are delaying things. The puppies are now in foster care with a family in Greece until Farah can pick them up. I'll report on this in the July newsletter.

ALSO...
KING and QUEENI
I reported extensively on them last month, here's a brief update: King and Queeni have settled in well with us β insofar as you can say that about these abused souls. In any case, the two have started playing together. Or rather, each plays with a toy on their own. They now also lie daily at the edge of the pen and watch the activities in the yard with interest. Both love bathing in their dog pool. The two have also started eating when Farah is standing next to them. King is brushed daily by Farah and now looks even more "bear-like".
Men are still a big problem. Only Farah and I can go into the pen to care for the dogs, feed them, comb them and clean the boxes and the pen. Actually, Mike, our yard master, would be the right person to slowly get the two used to men. But we're not there yet and we don't want to rush anything β or make it worse again.
At the end of June, we have an important appointment at the vet. Both of them urgently need to be examined. King is unfortunately positive for leishmaniasis and urgently needs treatment. Farah and I don't yet know how we'll manage the transport with the two to the vet. However, Farah's saying is always: "Nothing is impossible." In any case, I'll also report on this in the next newsletter, you can be excited...

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
We thank from the bottom of our hearts the company STRIKER Food und Beverage AG,
Thanks to their donation, we were able to increase the safety standard in the large, 300 square meter pen so that it is 100% escape-proof. Thanks Mirjam, Rafa and Martin, now no dog can escape!
Our sincere thanks also go to Glattfelder Privatbrauerei GmbH.
With their donation we were able to renew the flooring in the stall of donkey Pablito and horse Argos. Previously there was only gravel there. Not only did it stink and was very unhygienic, but it was also unhealthy for the hooves. Thanks to the donation, we were able to install a health floor that is not only much healthier for hoofed animals, but also more hygienic and easier to clean.
Finally, a few nice impressions from our "nurseries"
