March 2024

Dear friends,
our beloved newsletter is back online.
So many of you have been asking when it would return. We want to let you be part of our life with the animals again. A little glimpse into our daily work with the animals. And every single one of you is warmly welcome at Finca Noah. We'd be happy to welcome you and show you the farm and the animals in person.

I'm Nadine. In July 2022, I saw Farah de Tomi's call for help on Facebook saying she urgently needed support for her farm and animals due to health issues.
At first, I came to the farm three times a week as a volunteer to help, together with my son, who is now 13 years old. During that time, Farah and I realized that it wasn't just our love for animals that connected us. We fell in love. Now I'm here for the animals and for Farah seven days a week.
I hope my words can give you a little impression of what we do for the animals every day.

Oskar & Otto

Our second oldest dog, Oskar, 14 years old, a shepherd mix, still quite fit for his age, came to Finca Noah together with his best friend Otto, 16 years old, in the summer of 2023. Both came from the killing station at Natura Parc. Oskar had very bad teeth that our veterinarian had to partially remove so he could eat without problems and gain weight again. Oskar barely ate because of the pain. You all know this—who wants to chew when they have toothache.

Oskar loves to play and cuddle with small children; they bring him great joy, and he comes alive and forgets he's actually a grandpa dog. In March, Oskar had surgery on his tail, leaving a large scar that our veterinarian has serious doubts will heal properly. Tail amputation is not being ruled out at the moment. For now, we're keeping our fingers crossed for dear Oskar, hoping the scar heals well and stays closed once the stitches are removed. We really hope that Oskar won't need another surgery.

The German Shepherd Heidi

Heidi, at 7 years old, was also at Natura Parc. She had a family; her owner suddenly became ill and sadly passed away. Since no one in the family wanted to keep Heidi, she was simply handed over to the largest killing station on the island of Mallorca, like merchandise being returned because you no longer need it or it doesn't work. Heidi couldn't understand the world anymore. She didn't know why she couldn't be with her family anymore, why she was now locked up. She hadn't done anything wrong. She almost gave up from sadness.

She sat sadly in her far too small cage (2 m²) on the cold concrete floor, hoping so much that her family would pick her up again.
She didn't want treats. She didn't want toys to occupy herself with alone. She just wanted to be with people. She was introduced to us as a very sweet, social, and loving dog. An acquaintance of Farah's, who has worked as a volunteer at this killing station for years, contacted Farah once again. She knows that Farah loves German Shepherds above all else. Without hesitation, Farah brought Heidi to Finca Noah. The fact that Heidi has a big problem with cats and small dogs was more or less kept from us, or at least the extent of it wasn't known. In any case, it was impossible to integrate Heidi into our private dog pack. You all surely know our little dog Frau Meier. She would have been easy prey for Heidi, so to speak. Otherwise, she's truly a beautiful dog. We gave everything every day to find Heidi a new home as quickly as possible. With joy in her heart, she got to fly to cold Switzerland for the very first time. In beautiful Ticino, the experienced dog handler Yvonne had to wait excitedly for a week for Heidi to arrive. Because the journey has to be planned and all the documents for Heidi—vaccinations, spaying, microchip, passport, etc.—have to be prepared.
Every time we say goodbye to one of our charges, we do so with a smile on our face, tears in our eyes, and joy in our hearts. Because we wish every single animal we place nothing but the best.
Heidi now gets to simply be a dog in beautiful Ticino with Yvonne, and be a loyal soul for her new mom.
For happy endings like these, we really give everything….

Cats in Need

A large animal welfare organization on Mallorca asked us for support. Four strikingly beautiful tomcats have been locked up at Natura Parc for months, crying because they want to get out. These cats were presumably simply handed over to the shelter or abandoned, which is unfortunately not uncommon on Mallorca. The organization didn't have the capacity to temporarily take in these four cats. Without hesitation, we said, get them out right away; the four of them can recover from all the stress with us while you find them a beautiful and loving home.

They captured our hearts immediately. And after just eight weeks in our foster care, we had to say goodbye with heavy hearts. Because they were allowed to travel to Germany. Only knowing that an animal is getting a beautiful home, with lots of love, attention, a warm bed where they can simply be themselves, with a bowl always full of food, lets us look up and keep going.
All these animals need us!
