Leona, our soul on four paws
An emergency call and a male voice asking for immediate help. A female dog had been sick for a long time and was walking around with a huge tumor. Neighbors and pedestrians complained about it to the owner, but he just said: the tumor will fall off on its own. At the same time, the man who called me sent me a picture of this poor dog, and I didn't hesitate for a moment and drove towards Alcaudia, about 50 km away from our Finca Noah. When I arrived, I saw the poor soul with this enormous tumor on her neck. After a brief conversation with the owner and a letter stating that we β Animal Police β would take care of the poor dog, who was about 11 years old, and would cover all the costs of surgery, he handed her over to me within 10 minutes. "You can bring her back to me, whether dead or alive."
We immediately drove to the nearest known veterinarian, who took care of poor Leona right away. It would be best if he could operate on the sweet little dog the very next day. Even he hadn't often seen such a huge tumor in all his years of practice. He promised us firmly that he would operate on Leona the next morning, which is what we had been waiting for so much. I asked the doctor to let me spend a moment alone with Leona, and I promised her that I would do everything humanly possible to give her a life without the tumor again. I couldn't sleep all night and only had Leona on my mind, praying that my decision to have her operated on was the right one. Since the lady was already 11 years old. Either way, once again I acted with my heart alone, and today I am overjoyed at the decision to have Leona operated on immediately β and successfully! Leona quickly became the darling of everyone at the clinic! She fought so hard and simply wanted to live. She was happy when visitors came, ate like crazy, and loved her peace when she was alone. She recovered so well that after 5 days Leona could go to a foster home that Lilian had organized in the meantime.
A foster home like paradise β the lovely Silke agreed to look after Leona and care for her. After 2 days I received a call saying that Leona would stay with Silke forever and spend the rest of her life there! How wonderful!
Back then β on the day I drove Leona to the clinic β I also made a Facebook post for her right away, since the surgery alone was estimated at around β¬2,000. This post hit like lightning! So many people took part in Leona's life and donated generously. I am still speechless about it today, because we have collected an incredible β¬3,000 to date. For this, we β Animal Police β would like to thank you sincerely! We promise you that we will continue to stand up for the most vulnerable and give them a voice. In the next newsletter, we will be happy to tell you how Leona is managing her life with Silke.
Luna on her way to her new home
Luna, our first dog at Finca Noah, who now lives in Germany with the family P. Kelly.
Here are some pictures from her new home with her friend Linda.
Every time I see pictures like these, I know that I'm doing everything right and that Animal Police is truly needed!
3 new arrivals: Maria, Josef, and little Jesus
As you may know, my knowledge about sheep is not really extensive. Paul and Paula were our first sheep at Finca Noah. But now our sheep family is growing with Maria, Josef, and the super small crazy little Jesus.
Pictures speak louder than a thousand words.
I will become a sheep expert yet β these three really keep me on my toes! Hardly had we arrived at Finca Noah when we were able to conclude sponsorships for all three. Hurray... I thank you for that too, you are simply wonderful!
Rabbit shed
When I went shopping β and what I saw there knocked me over once again. In a garage where you can buy food for animals (I always go there when I need milk powder for the three little sheep), there was a cage with rabbits in the corner on the ground. No water, no food β just in the blazing sun. I went to the owner and asked him what that was all about. Where was the water for the animals or even just some food? He said: "They'll be picked up sometime today β and after that they'll get anything but food and water" and just laughed in my face. I was furious, of course, and immediately threatened him with the police and made it clear to him that this was not acceptable and that he was operating a black market. On the spot, he offered me the eight rabbits for β¬80! What was I supposed to do β of course I paid the money and took them with me right away.
200 mΒ² for a large rabbit paradise
Now, in the next step, we are building a rabbit paradise for these 7 rabbits at our Finca Noah. We'll manage with rabbits too! Unfortunately, there are only 7 rabbits now β one wanted to see the wide world and escaped without saying a word! Who knows, maybe he'll come back when the rabbit paradise is finished!
Silent Mallorca
It's hard to believe, but our island is like dead. Due to Corona, even the last holiday guests are gone. Unfortunately, many people are also moving back home who have lived here for years. The terrible thing is, they just leave the animals to their fate. We receive so many emergency calls from people who are about to leave.
I really have no words β how can you abandon dogs that you've had for years, cats, horses β loving animals that have been your companions β and just leave them to their fate and take off?
You can't even imagine what people do to save their own skin! They leave behind everything that makes a person who they are β dignity, love, and respect. Surely one is taught a sense of values in the cradle? What is happening to our world?
In any case, we will continue to fight here on the island for those who have no voice, and we will do so until the end of the world.
No one from Animal Police will ever abandon an animal β I can swear to you on that!
Warmly yours, Farah
