Goodbye Luz π
Unfortunately, we had to say goodbye to our cuddly, lovely senior dog Luz over the rainbow bridge during an emergency operation. We are sad and frustrated, especially because Luz had such a sorrowful life. Luz never got to experience what it means to live in a "real" family, to have a roof over her head, to have a little bed in a warm room, to be cared for and loved. Luz spent her entire life (10 years) on a chain and her last months with us in a kennel. We tried everything to find her a family. But nobody wanted her: too old, too big, and too black... Our hearts break knowing that all our attempts to give Luz a real life unfortunately failed.

LUZ, 2011-2021.
That's why we appeal to all of you: PLEASE DON'T FORGET THE OLDER ANIMALS! Many were tormented, abused, left alone, and ignored their whole lives. Those lucky enough to be rescued after years wait in an animal welfare organization for a new home. Often in vain β like our LUZ.
Isn't it also human selfishness, the fear of having to grieve an animal sooner rather than later, that drives many people to adopt "only" puppies or young animals?
Murta
had more luck. After 10 years on a chain and a few weeks with us, she finally found "her family" and gets to move to Switzerland. We're thrilled and wish Murta that she can enjoy the years she has left to the fullest. We thank her family from the bottom of our hearts for being willing to give Murta a new, "real" life.
NEW ARRIVALS
THEO, the little chick
Sweet little Theo was rescued by our two attentive volunteers Noemie and Aline, who had booked the "Animal Holiday") at Finca Noah. Theo was rejected by his mother on his first day of life β we don't know why. But the two women wouldn't accept that and took Theo into their care. They nurtured and cared for him every day and showed him how to eat and drink by tapping with their fingernail on the bowl where his food and water were. And that's who he is now, our Theo.
THE STREET PUPPIES ON SANTORINI (Greece)
The four puppies, Apollo, Zeus, Alpha, and Beta have finally arrived in Switzerland β specifically in Basel. The Labrador mix puppies are 4.5 months old, playful, affectionate, and are now looking for loving families. The four puppies can be met as of now. For questions or interest, please contact Nadja WΓΌthrich (+41 76 342 78 63)

ALSO... Sponsorships
I'd like to remind you that you can sponsor one of our animals. In addition to the horses Nebraska and Argos, our sweet donkey Pablito is also looking for a new sponsor.

UPDATE: KING AND QUEENI
This month was finally the time when Farah could introduce King and Queeni to our veterinarian. As always, the two dogs retreated to their wooden box when Farah entered the kennel with the vet, but they still dared to sniff at his hands. Even when the vet took blood from King, both dogs seemed unfazed.
This introduction was urgently needed. King has changed dramatically in appearance β his face turned gray practically overnight. No one could tell us why. Or why it happened now that he's with us. Was it stress? Or perhaps because King could finally let go, the stress finally gone?
Now, after the blood test, we know what's going on. King has the highest degree of leishmaniasis. Our veterinarian said he'd never seen values this high. Since King has cutaneous leishmaniasis, we assume the rapid graying is a symptom of the disease. King now gets two injections daily that Mike has to administer. It's going very well. Both dogs are in the wooden box, where King lets himself get the injection without any fuss.

Volunteer Bea
Bea visited Finca Noah and helped out for a week. You can read about her experience in her experience report.
Our Nadia is leaving us
Unfortunately, our dear Nadia is leaving us this month, which we deeply regret! We wish her all the best for her future and will always keep her in our hearts! Thank you for your wonderful work!
